Sunset at Dal Lake

We started our Journey in Srinagar, a true “Paradise on Earth”. We visited Chashma Shahi Gardens – a beautiful garden at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountains in Srinagar. In the evening we witnessed a stunning sunset at Dal Lake, enjoyed the Shikara Ride and the famous Kashmiri Kahwa Tea. We also tried their famous dish called Wazwan - a multi-course meal in Kashmiri cuisine. Almost all dishes are meat-based using lamb or chicken with a few vegetarian dishes. Journey to Srinagar is incomplete without SHOPPING. So, we bought some Kashmiri Shawls, embroidery dresses, dry fruits and so on.

After Kargil, we continued our journey to Leh. Enroute we visited Mulbekh Monastery famous for its rock carved Buddha and Lamayuru – the oldest monastery of Ladakh. It also witnessed the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, known as Sangam.

The next day, we traveled to Kargil via Sonmarg & Drass Village (the second coldest inhabited place in the world). The journey to Kargil is through the Zozila Mountain Pass, our first encounter with the high mountain passes in Ladakh. We enjoyed an amazing view of the mighty Himalayan mountain range on our way. Our main goal here was to visit the Kargil War Memorial. Unfortunately due to bad road conditions, we reached when it was closing time at the memorial, but on request, we were granted entry by the soldiers who allowed us to click a few photos.

Hall of Fame, Leh

Later we went to Leh Palace also known as Tsemo Fort. This structure is actually visible from everywhere in Leh. And the view of Leh city from the top of the fort was just mind-blowing!!!Then we headed to see the monasteries in Leh like Spituk Gompa, Shanti Stupa

We started our Leh City tour by visiting the Hall of Fame Museum - constructed by the Indian Army in memory of the brave Indian soldiers who laid down their lives defending our motherland in the Indo-Pak war.

Khardungla Pass

We then continued our journey to Hundar Valley via Khardungla Pass - the highest motorable road in the World. With the view of snowy mountains, the journey to Hunder valley started. On our Leh Ladakh trip, snow is all we could think off and this wait was over at Kharundgla. Forgetting everything, all we did was jumped out of the vehicle and played in the snow, just as any other kid would have done.

We wanted to visit offbeat places on our Leh Ladakh tour, hence we selected the village of Hunder. This village is famous for Sand dunes, Bactrian camels (two-humped camels).

One of our crazy group photos clicked at Pangong Tso

The next day we were all set to leave for Pangong Tso Lake. Crystal clear blue water surrounded by mountains. We reached almost at the time of sunset as we started our day very late.

The temperature was dropping and it was almost -8℃  in the night.

I saw the best scene of my life - moonlight over the Pangong Lake and it was just beyond explanation!!
